Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
Burk and Botyller, two of the heirs of Fitz John request remedy and that Emma Fitz John be made to come into Chancery by writ to deliver the charters, fines and other writings that she detains, and that they ought to have of the lands and tenements that they have as their purparty, and of which Emma is impleaded of, and they are not able to purchase by the common law because they do not know the number of the writings, which thing will result in their disinheritance.
Nature of endorsement
All the heirs should go to the lady and by common assent petition for the charters etc.
People mentioned
Richard Fyz Johan (Fitz John)
Emma [Fyz Johan (Fitz John)], widow of Richard Fitz John.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1297-c. 1300 as the inquisition of Richard Fitz John of his English lands was initiated by a writ dated 26 June, 25 Edw. I (1297), and the extent of his Irish lands by a writ of 18 June, 27 Edw. I (1299). It seems likely that the petition post dates the latter, though this is not certain (CIPM, vol. III, no. 422 & 507).
