Description
Petitioners
Roger de Mareys.
Name(s)
de Mareys, Roger
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Mareys requests that he be restored to his estate that he had in a house and two shops in London that he had before he went to Rome on the king's business with Hotham so that he is not disinherited by his service to the king. While he was in Rome, Breton and his sheriffs and other clerks proceeded in a plea by a writ of right and has lost the house and shops despite having the king's protection.1)
Nature of endorsement
If he considers himself injured by the keeper/mayor and certain others he should make the record come.2) Let this be considered in council for the purpose.
Places mentioned
Rome, [Italy]
London.
People mentioned
William de Hodom (Hotham), Archbishop of Dublin
John le Breton, then keeper of London.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1300 as the petition seems to be late in Edward I's reign and it refers to the keeper or warden of London who held the office until London's liberties were restored in 1298, and to Archbishop Hotham of Dublin who died in 1298, so that the petition seems to be a little after these.
