Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/329/E911
Date
[1291-1295]
Description
Petitioners
William de Leyre of London.
Name(s)
de Leyre, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Leyre states that he holds the houses that were Baggard's of the feoffment of Vesci, which houses she was granted by charter of the king to hold for the rent of 2d per annum to be paid at the Exchequer. The houses came into the king's hand because of the expulsion of the Jews and the sheriffs of London distrain Leyre by summons of the Exchequer for a pair of gilt spurs which Baggard rendered before the houses came into the king's hand which is against the tenor of the grant to Vesci. He requests that he make the service granted to Vesci and that he be discharged of the spurs.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
Isabel [le Vesci (Vescy)], widow of John le Vesci
Ellis Baggard, Jew.
Note
The petition is dated to 1291-1295 as the petition refers to the expulsion of the Jews in 1290, to houses formerly belonging to a London Jew, and to a charter that was sewn to the petition which survive as SC 8/329/E912 and date to April 1291. It seems likely that the petition cannot be too long after the charter but enough time had elapsed for the houses to be granted by Vescy to the petitioner.
