Nature of request
[Petition in two parts:]1) Bourhse' requests a writ to the justice of the Forest that they deliver all the timber that the carpenters consider necessary for the repair of the castle where the houses and bridges are ruinous by great storms, and he requests a further writ to the sheriff of that country that the costs of the carpenters and carriage be quit to Dover.2) Bourghse' requests that a writ of allowance is commanded to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they make allowance for his fee for the custody of the castle upon his account as Penchester his predecessor took for the custody, and that this paid be paid somewhere in the Cinque Ports such as Pevensey, Winchelsea, Sandwich or the manor of West Cliffe. He requests payment for the sums he borrowed to pay the sergeants against the coming of the queen.

The petition is dated to 1298-1306 when the petitioner held the office of constable of Dover (Rickard, J., The Castle Community: The Personnel of English and Welsh Castles, 1272-1422, p. 266). As the second part of the petition is concerned with the fee payable to the petitioner for his tenure of the office, it seems likely that the petition dates to c. 1300.
