Nature of request
Meriet requests grace and that he is able to make a fine and have the liberties of amendment of the breaking of the assize of bread and ale, waif and strays and view of frankpledge in the manors of Merriott and Lopen as his ancestors had them, or that he can render the 40s for them per annum. His father held them until the coming of the last eyre when they were taken into the king's hand because of a bad voucher by his father's attorney. They have remained in the king's hand since unchallenged because of the death of the petitioner's father and because of the petitioner's minority.

The petition is dated to c. 1295-c. 1300 in part on the hand, but also because the petition refers to the right being lost in the last eyre, and the last eyre in Somerset was in 1280 (Records of the General Eyre, p. 52). The petition also refers to the petition being delayed because of the death of the petitioner's father, and his own minority, and the petitioner's wardship was granted to Robert Fitz John on 16 July 1285, and the petitioner was active from 1295 onwards (CPR 1281-92, p. 184; CPR 1292-1301, p.169).
