Reference
SC 8/328/E887
Date
[? c. 1305]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Sefeld, keeper of the king's house called 'la meeson dieu' of Dunwich.
Name(s)
de Sefeld, Robert
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Dunwich, [Suffolk].
Nature of request
Sefeld requests that it is granted that he is able to receive and purchase land to the value of £20 for the relief of the house of which he is warden, and for the chantry to sustain it. The house should sustain twelve chaplains to sing for the souls of the king's ancestors but is so ruined by the sea so that it is not worth twelve marks as is found by inquisition, and the people of the town and country have made voluntary gifts to them to relieve their situation.
Nature of endorsement
1) They should identify the lands and who wishes to give them. 2) In Chancery.
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1305 as a grant of a licence in mortmain for the acquisition of several pieces of land and a mill date to 22 March 1305 (CPR 1301-7, p. 322). However, these items do not tally with the items and individuals recorded in the schedule formerly enclosed with the petition (SC 8/328/E888)
