Description
Petitioners
Alice Otistede, widow of Hugh le Tailor of London.
Name(s)
Otistede, Alice
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[The petition is stained and not fully legible].Otistede requests remedy and redress for the wrong done to her as she sued by writ of appeal before the king's justices of the Bench at Westminster against Ashendon for the death and robbery of her husband, and he was attainted and Ashendon was given to the abbot of Westminster as his ordinary and power was given to the abbot's commissary to hear Ashendon's compurgation and the petitioner sued that he had been forbarred from this. The abbot has delivered Ashendon from prison and Otistede has no restitution of the goods stolen by Ashendon nor other remedy of the grievances that Ashendon was attainted of, and is in great fear of peril and death by Ashendon's delivery.
Nature of endorsement
He should come before the king at the next parliament and he will ordain what, by right, ought to be done, and the abbot of Westminster should come, because the king's council is not able to ordain a remedy without the king.
