Nature of request
Latimer requests remedy as he was granted the custody of the daughter and heir of Simon de Scharstede and she married against his will, and he recovered the custody of all the lands with the issues from the time that they were taken into the king's hand by award of the court, but Leybourne and others came and took the corn of this land and carried it away against the peace and to his great damage.

Note
The petition is dated to 1297-1300 as Henry de Leyburn came into Chancery and acknowledged his fault in marrying the Scharstede heiress (called Isabel in the petition, but Elizabeth in the close rolls), and obliged himself to the petitioner to make satisfaction to the petitioner on 6 November 1297 (CCR 1296-1302, p. 136). This entry is followed by an acquittance made by the petitioner to Leyburn, but dating to 1 April 1300. In the intervening time, two orders were made to seize the lands of Leyburn, as the petitioner had complained that he still had not received satisfaction, these dating to 28 November 1297, and 31 October 1298 (CCR 1296-1302, pp. 139, 183).
