Reference
SC 8/328/E869
Date
[c. 1299-1307]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Our Lady of York (St Mary, York).
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Abbot of Our Lady of York (St Mary, York)
Nature of request
The abbot requests that he can have again the liberty of Frankpledge and the amendment of breaking the assize of bread and ale of his tenants in Haslingfield. He and his predecessors have had this liberty, but the king recovered it before his justice in eyre when they were last at Cambridge. The liberty was valued at 12d.
Nature of endorsement
Let the record of the justices be brought.
Places mentioned
York
Haslingfield, [Cambridgeshire]
Cambridge, [Cambridgeshire].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1299-1307 as the petition refers to an eyre held at Cambridge in the present king's reign, and the last eyre there was held in 1299, and before that in 1286 (Records of the General Eyre, p. 52). The hand of the petition suggests a date late in Edward I, so that the petition must date to after the last eyre and before the end of the reign.
