Occupation
keeper of the hospital of St Katherine outside the Tower of London
Nature of request
Redinges states that he was granted the custody of the castle for his life by the king and requests that he can have and enjoy the keeping of the hospital according to the form of his commission as some who have entered the house before his coming and without licence have brought a writ of account against him. He further requests that he can remove those who have entered the house without being provided by the king and replace them with good people as the queen, the king's mother, ordained that no brother or sister should enter without such provision. He requests that good people be assigned to enquire of the state of the hospital when it was granted to him.1)

Coram consilio, per regem.2) He should wait until he has some other command etc.. And Sandwich and Lacy are newly assigned to do what by right ought to be done.
Places mentioned

People mentioned
S. de Sandwyco (Sandwich)
[John] de Lacy.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1299 as clerks were assigned to audit the petitioner's accounts on 28 May and 14 October 1299, and this is presumably the audit referred to in this petition, and a commission was issued on 12 April 1300 in response to complaints by the brethren and sisters of the hospital concerning the petitioner, which refers to the removal of certain persons from the hospital, a matter also referred to in this petition. In addition, the auditors and the commission both include Lacy and Sandwich (CPR 1292-1301, pp. 420, 445, 548).
