Nature of request
Betoigne states that he has lost for the king all his lands in Scotland which were valued at 300 marks per annum because he would not become the man of Robert de Bruce, the king's enemy, and Bruce has given his lands to a knight of his. He has sold all his goods except his armour and horses and he and his wife and ten children are reduced to begging and requests that the manors of Willoughton and Withern be assigned for their sustenance, these formerly belonging to the Templars.
