Date
[c. 1310]
Description
Petitioners
Piers de Luffenham, chaplain.
Name(s)
de Luffenham, Piers
Addressees
King.
Occupation
chaplain
Nature of request
Luffenham requests grace and remedy and that hasty right be done for the king and the parties, and a sergeant be ordained for the king and the petitioner to aid and counsel and to maintain the estate of the king, as the petitioner was granted the chapel of the Almonry of the abbey of Westminster during a time of vacancy, but the abbot and convent make to aggrieve him and withdraw his sustenance to make him surrender the king's letters and take those of the abbot instead, and they conspire to prevent the petitioner serving the writ of the king on this by their liberties.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Westminster.
People mentioned
Abbot and convent of Westminster.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1310 as the petitioner was granted the chapel on 22 March 1310 (CPR 1307-13, p. 218). The dating seems strange because the petition and the grant refer to the grant being made during vacancy, though there does not seem to be one in March 1310 when the grant was made.
