Nature of request
The abbot and convent state that they petitioned the king and council concerning a sum of money and chalice which they demanded from Berwick of the remainder of a devise to them for Queen Eleanor, and they were answered that the account of Berwick be viewed where it could be found how much they had been paid. The abbot and convent request that a writ be commanded to summon the executors of Berwick before the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to show and certify the court by their acquittances [...]. They also request that they be paid from the goods of the late queen in Berwick's possession, and not from his own goods.

The petition dates to 1312 as an entry in the Close Rolls which is clearly closely related, but probably predates the petition is dated to 8 October 1312 (CCR 1307-13, p. 481).
