Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/327/E796
Date
[c. 1312]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Ercedekene (Archdeacon).
Name(s)
de Ercedekene (Archdeacon), Thomas
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[Petition in two parts:]1) Ercedekene requests allowance of the expenses and costs that he has incurred in Tintagel Castle after the time that the late earl of Cornwall had livery of it, as he has been put to great costs in the repair of the turrets and walls.2) He requests that the king will grant his commission of the custody and marriage of the lands and heirs of Walter Alet, which Piers Gaveston gave him before his death, of which he is now seised.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Tintagel, [Cornwall].
People mentioned
Earl of Cornwall
Walter Dalet (Alet)
Piers Gavaston (Gaveston), Earl of Cornwall.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1312 as it refers to Piers Gaveston, earl of Cornwall, and the reference makes it clear that it is after his death in 1312, but it seems likely that the petition is not long after his death especially with the dating of SC 8/318/E299 and E324. In addition, an entry in the close rolls referring to the petitioner in possession of the castle dates to 20 March 1312 (CCR 1307-13, p. 454).
