Nature of request
[Petition in two parts:]1) Hongerford shows that Claxton declared Berkshire quit of the debts of the infants, and in this time 4 quarters of wheat were taken from the petitioner at Windsor, and Hongerford is unable to have payment from Claxton.2) Hongerford requests remedy as he moved a plea in the Marshalcy and seneschalcy and Gille was condemned in 4 marks to be paid to the petitioner, and was ordered to prison until he made satisfaction, and he complains that Fillol delivered him without him making satisfaction, and Fillol will not answer for the body or the money.

The petition is dated to c. 1310 as the petition makes mention of Thomas de Brotherton, and he is not styled as earl of Norfolk he being granted that title in 1312. In addition, a note of John de Claxton as keeper of the Wardrobe of Thomas of Brotherton shows him to be serving in that office in 4 and 5 Edw. II, 1310-12 (Tout, Chapters in Administrative History, vol. I, p. 257, note 1).
