Nature of request
It is shown that by the assent of the baronage it was agreed that nothing should be alienated from the Crown without the common assent of the baronage in parliament, but despite this the king has granted the cognizance and amendment of the assize of bread, wine and ale to the mayor and commonalty of York and they have reduced the gallon and other measures for the sale of wine and ale, and increased the weights for bread to the impoverishment of the people.
