[The petition has clearly been cut from a longer membrane of petitions].The prioress requests remedy as the earl of Lincoln gave the priory one hundred acres of waste in Ashridge but they are disturbed by the people of the country who came by force and arms and threw down their banks so that they are greatly impoverished.

The petition is dated to? c. 1285 on the basis of the dating given on the guard which is based on an inspeximus of the original grant of the waste to the priory which was made on 15 July 1285 (CPR 1281-92, p. 185). However, this petition is noted as possibly having become detached from SC 8/178/8860, and if this is the case, then that petition is dated to? 1283.
