Description
Petitioners
Owen le Fiz David (ap David) ap Griffyn.
Name(s)
Fiz David (ap David) ap Griffyn, Owen
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Bristol.
Nature of request
The petitioner states that he has been imprisoned in Bristol Castle by the command of the king since the age of seven for his father's trespass. He requests that he can go and play amongst the towers of the castle, and because the constable of the castle does not find sufficient in food and clothing for him from the money given to him for that purpose by the king, he requests that the money might be delivered to him or another that pleases the king who will be more tender to the petitioner.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested that he has sufficient sustenance in victuals and clothing, therefore nothing, etc.And let it be enquired who sues this petition. For Owen le Fitz David ap Griffyn.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1305-c. 1312 on the basis of references to the incarceration of the petitioner at Bristol Castle in the patent and close rolls (CCR 1302-7, p. 298; CPR 1307-13, p. 452). The dating of the petition c. 1312 by Rees who links this to the petitioner's transfer to Bristol Castle in April 1312 appears to be a misreading of the patent rolls entry cited above (Rees, Calendar of Ancient Petitions relating to Wales, p. 522).
