Nature of request
[Petition in two parts:]1) Walter de Versshagh complains of the sheriff of Wiltshire and his bailiffs who distrain him grievously to his great damage to be on assizes and juries at London at the Bench and elsewhere, and they have sold some of the distraints, and he has been forced to sell some of his land to his great damage, he not being resident in the county.2) Versshagh and his wife complain that they were impleaded by writ of the king in the suburb of Bristol, and at the first day they were essoined, and afterwards they made default, and for which default they offered pledges to come and do what the law willed, and Dyme, Cole, and Kyng, their adversary and imprisoned them for a week or more so that they were not able to leave by any mainprise until they were moved to Somerton as common thieves against the peace to their damage in the nineteenth year of the king.
