Description
Petitioners
Prior and convent of the Holy Trinity, Norwich.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The prior and convent request remedy of the wrongful demand made against them, and that their church not be disinherited of its right. The hospital of Normannespitel (Norwich, St Paul) which is of the foundation of their church and pertains to their church in free alms for which they have grants and confirmations from the king's ancestors was seized into the king's hand by Clifford by power of his office, and after the intervention of the bishop of Norwich who then was with the council, the escheator was ordered to restore the hospital to the petitioners and repay the issues in the meantime. The issues were not repaid and their enemies procured in the last eyre to show that the escheator had received £8 and this is now demanded in the Exchequer.
Nature of endorsement
Before the treasurer, and let the justices of both Benches be called in the presence of the chancellor if he be present, and let them hear the parties, and let justice be done.
Places mentioned

People mentioned
Bishop of Norwich
Richard de Clifford, late escheator
Saloman de Roucestre (Rochester).
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1286 as the petition refers to an eyre in Norfolk and Saloman de Rochester, he being one of the judges on the circuit that visited Norfolk (Crook, D. Records of the General Eyre, p. 166).
