Nature of request
Maulevere requests that the justices assigned to those parts go there and take the inquisition concerning his disseisin of 10 marks of land in Horsley, or that others with knowledge of those parts be assigned. He has brought a writ of novel disseisin against Greystoke as he gave him 10 marks of land in the vill of Horsley to go in his place to Gascony in the king's service in the first fleet, but while he resided there, Greystoke came and disseised him of the land.

The petition is dated to c. 1297 as Greystoke was granted a licence to demise the land to the petitioner on 24 August 1294, and the petitioner refers to his service in Gascony until the truce with France which came about in 1297 and lasted to 1303 (CPR 1292-1301, p. 85).
