The goldsmiths request remedy as they are impoverished by a proclamation lately made in the city that no-one in the city was to melt pollards or other money on pain of forfeiture of all his goods, as alien people buy all silver that they can find, both vessels and money, and take it out of the realm, so that people come to have pollards and other money to make vessels and they dare not melt it.

The petition is dated to c. 1299 as the matter of the use of pollards and crockard coins in England was a subject of an ordinance of this time with various references to it in the patent rolls for that year (CPR 1292-1301, pp. 430, 435, 510).
