Bard states that he was given the bailiwick during the king's pleasure rendering £70 at the Exchequer at the two terms of the year and the merchants of the Bardi and others now of new refuse to pay the customs and lastage of their wools that they bring from London in small boats to transfer to galleys to take overseas, and is now summoned by them to come before you at Westminster to show before them his reason and your right by which he takes the lastage. He requests letters under the privy seal to the council that the things that pertain to the bailiwick and the bailiff are maintained and kept, and that nothing be done prejudicial to the bailiwick.

The petition is dated to c. 1313-c. 1324 as the petitioner was granted the office of bailiff of Sandwich for life in July 1314 and the office was granted to one Nicholas Larcher in November 1324 (CPR 1313-17, p. 157; CCR 1323-7, p. 237).
