Reference
SC 8/324/E661
Date
[1337-1338]
Description
Petitioners
Heirs, executors, administrators and land tenants of all the king's lieges of England from whom the king took wool at Dordrecht.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners request that they be granted a general pardon of forfeiture for both those of them who are obliged by judgment, and those upon which it is still continued in demand as they shipped wool properly cocketed by the standard weights of the Exchequer, and the wool was taken to the king's use at Dordrecht and reweighed there by the weights of those parts which are less in quantity than those of the Exchequer standard, and because of which the wool was found to weigh more at Dordrecht by which they are aggrieved by process of the Exchequer.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Dordrecht, [Netherlands].
Note
The petition is dated to 1337-1338 as it seems likely that the reference to the taking of wool at Dordrecht refers to the king's attempts to raise additional revenue from the wool export at that time.
