The petitioners request that they can be paid their wages as it was ordained that 24 orators should pray for the king and his realm receiving 2d. a day, of which they are in arrears for two years from the time of Richard Field.

The petition is dated to c. 1399 as the petition refers to wages in arrears from the time of Richard II, and it seems unlikely that the petition can be very far into the reign of Henry IV, though the reference to arrears for two years from the time of Richard Field, almoner of Richard II, may indicate two years from the fall of Richard II, rather than arrears that existed in Richard II's time so indicating a date of 1401.
