Name(s)

Addressees

Nature of request
The Poles state that they were granted the office of gauger of wine throughout all the king's land for the term of their lives for the service that they had done, but Gauger has come and alleged that they only hold the office at the king's will and has sued a writ to Richard de la Pole to deliver the office to him. They request that the allegation and process of Gauger be repealed as it is in deceit of the court.
Nature of endorsement
Let this petition be sent before the justices of the pleas of the king, etc., that there they call William Gauger and view what he has for himself in right of the office, and also the letters of Richard and William whereof their petition makes mention, and hear the reasons and do right, and in the meantime Richard and William are to remain in office.
