Description
Petitioners
Lepers of the hospital of St Giles outside Holborn.
Addressees
King and the lords of this present [Parliament].
Nature of request
The lepers request remedy as the current master of the hospital, the abbot of St Mary Graces has withdrawn the alms and hospitality that they are assigned and does not wish to receive further sick into the hospital to bring it up to its full total.
Nature of endorsement
[None, but the petition was apparently consulted in the eighteenth century, as there is an endorsement in a hand of that age].
Places mentioned
Holborn, Middlesex
London.
People mentioned
Abbot of St Mary Graces near the Tower of London.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1399-c. 1413 as the petition refers to the king's grandfather, and this, presumably, is a reference to Edward III, and the hand of the petition suggests that the petition is of the earlier fifteenth century.
