Reference
SC 8/324/E606
Date
[c. 1290-c. 1300]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Weiland (Wayland), son of Thomas de Weiland.
Name(s)
de Weiland (Wayland), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Weiland requests delivery of his lands and the issues of the same, or that the sheriff be commanded to certify upon this as he jointly purchased the land and rent in Great Massingham with his father, but was ejected by Berri, and Weiland can have no remedy at law because they are in the king's hand and Berri will not deliver them without an order from the king.
Nature of endorsement
He should show his charter of feoffment or other title if he has it.
Places mentioned
Great Massingham, Norfolk.
People mentioned
Thomas de Weiland (Wayland), father of the petitioner
William Berri, keeper of the chattels of Thomas de Wayland.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1290-c. 1300 as it seems likely that this petition is from the son of the disgraced chief justice of the Common Pleas who was dismissed in 1289 and was forced to abjure the realm. It is not clear whether the petition dates to immediately after this or to a slightly date, though one would imagine that the son would not have waited too long to pursue his claims.
