Margaret, widow of John Giffard, requests remedy because 200 acres of wood in the manor of Welles, which she and her husband purchased jointly, were seized into the King's hand when her husband was adjudged an enemy and rebel for his part in the dispute against the Despensers.
Nature of endorsement
Sufficient persons should be assigned in Chancery to enquire in the presence of the said keeper into what estate John and Margaret had in the toft, and if John alone held the wood (for example, if Margaret quitclaimed it to him or granted it to him for life), or if John demised it without Margaret's permission, and into any other necessary circumstances in this matter. The inquisition should be returned in Chancery so that further justice can be done.
