Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/311/15537
Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Morris Draweswerd.
Name(s)
Draweswerd, Morris
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Draweswerd requests that he be restored to the office of alnage in England which the King's father granted him for life by his charter (a copy of which is attached to this), and of which he was seized for a long time until the bishop of Exeter and Despenser ousted him and gave it to Griffin.
Nature of endorsement
The justices of the King's bench should be ordered by writ to examine the charter etc. and do justice.
People mentioned
Edward [II], King of England
Bishop of Exeter
Hugh le Despenser
John Griffoun (Griffin), servant [vadlet] of Hugh le Despenser.
Note
In October 1331 justices were ordered to supersede the process brought by the petitioner against Nicholas Shirlok concerning the office of alnage (CCR 1330-3, p. 391). Since this petition mentions Griffin (Shirlok's predecessor) but not Shirlok himself, it is possible that this petition is earlier.
