Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/310/15498
Date
[? 1318]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Northampton.
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
[The text is stained and faded and all but a few isolated words are now illegible. However, it does mention merchants and seals.]
Nature of endorsement
[Largely illegible.]
Places mentioned
Northampton, [Northamptonshire].
Note
The petition and endorsement are now both largely illegible. However, the parts of the endorsement which are legible would seem to match the response to the petition of the burgesses of Northampton recorded on the parliament roll for 1318 (Cole, Documents Illustrative of English History, pp.30-1). That petition requested the provision of a seal in order that the town could make recognisances according to the statute of merchants made at the Acton Burnel parliament in 1283. The response ordered the provision of such a seal.
