Nature of request
Writ of Edward III to the sheriff of Staffordshire, ordering him to summon Hanyngfeld to be in Chancery to show why his collation to the prebend of Cannock in the king's free chapel of Penkridge should not be revoked. The king appointed Hanyngfeld to the prebend, in the hands of the king's father due to the then vacancy in the archbishopric of Dublin, but the Dean and Chapter of Lichfield have claimed that the collation belonged to them by a charter of Richard I.
Nature of endorsement
Response of John de Hynkeley, sheriff.The return of this writ was made by Simon de Cungreve, bailiff of the liberty of the Bishop of Chester, who has return of all writs, who replied that Richard de Hanyngfeld, who has collation to the church of Cannock in the king's free chapel of Penkridge as contained in a writ, is to be before the king himself in Chancery at the quindene of Trinity wherever he shall be, by Adam Trimwyne and John de Lecroft.At which day the said Richard did not come nor was anything shown to the king.
