Nature of request
Alexander de Ryhill requests deliverance from custody, stating that he was taken at Bamburgh and imprisoned by Potenhale on suspicion of complicity with the king's enemies. However, he has traded in Scotland, Flanders and Gascony only during times of peace, as can be confirmed by Emeldon and other good men of Newcastle.

The mayor and [...] of the town should come before the Chancellor and make known whether or not he was a burgess of the town, and if it found that he is a burgess of the town and not an adherent of the Scottish enemies, then he should be delivered from prison.

Note
Emeldon was mayor of Newcastle on numerous occasions between 1305 and his death, in office, at the battle of Halidon Hill on 19 July 1333. A related commission into the arrest of the petitioner was issued on 10 August 1333 (CIM 1307-49, p.336).
