Description
Petitioners
Agnes de Yetelyngton (Yetlington), widow of Adam de Yetlington.
Name(s)
de Yetelyngton (Yetlington), Agnes
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Agnes de Yetlington requests that Lilburn be replaced as sheriff of Northumberland, as she cannot have justice while he remains in office. She states that, after her husband was killed by a neighbour, Lilburn seized all his goods, and when she sought recovery he imprisoned her at Newcastle until she bought her release. She was then brought before Denum and Emeldon, who released her for lack of indictment, but when she complained before Midelton and Denum, justices of enquiry, they said this was outside their jurisdiction.
Nature of endorsement
It pleases the council, if it pleases the Chancellor and Treasurer, that the sheriff should be removed and another put in his place, and that certain justices be assigned to hear the lady's plea.
