Nature of request
The chaplains of Tavistock Abbey request that the king appoint another monk to lead their house, stating that the convent of Tavistock have elected two abbots, John de Courtenay and Robert Bosse, who are pleading their case at Rome. The Prior of Tavistock has been given custody of the house, but has cut down woods, reduced alms from 5s to 12d per day and done other things, to the destruction of the house.

Clearly dates to the period between the death of Abbot Robert Champeaux of Tavistock in December 1324 and the appointment of Abbot Bonus in October 1327, during which time both Bosse and Courtenay claimed the position following the disputed election.
