Reference
SC 8/310/15461
Date
[? 1324-? 1328]
Description
Petitioners
William Amaneu (Guilhem Amaneu) de Madaillan, Lord of Rauzan.
Name(s)
de Madaillan, Lord of Rauzan, William Amaneu (Guilhem Amaneu)
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The lord of Rauzan makes four requests.1) He requests the payment to his proctor of £2000 tournois owed to him for his service to the king.2) He requests confirmation of gifts granted to him by the Earl of Kent.3) He requests the granting of gifts given by the Earl of Kent to his brother Pons, who died in the king's service.4) He requests the payment of wages owed to his late brother, or that assignment be made in Gascony.
Nature of endorsement
The king orders his lieutenant and seneschal [...] and they have full power from the king to inform themselves of the matters contained [...] do what reason wills [...].
Places mentioned
Rauzan, [Guyenne, France]
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
John de Britaigne (Brittany)
Raymond, proctor of the petitioner
[Edmund of Woodstock], Earl of Kent
Pons [de Monwoyl, Monnil], brother of the petitioner.
Note
The petitioner made a request regarding part payment of a debt of £2000 tournois in 1328 (Rot. Parl. Hac Ined., p.183). This was presumably the same sum requested here, and would suggest that the present petition pre-dates that request. John of Brittany was Lieutenant of Gascony in 1294-5 and 1310-11, while Edmund, Earl of Kent, was Lieutenant in 1324-6. The petition therefore probably dates to between the Earl's appointment in 1324 and the petitioner's further requests in 1328.
