- Carleton requests a protection of alms. Six years ago cloth worth £100 was lost in a sudden storm and three of his horses and more cloth worth £56 were stolen by robbers who left him tightly bound for a day and two nights so that he was near death. Also, he owes several people £30 for which he was arrested at Norwich, and although certain of his friends have pledged £300 that he would pay the £30, he still cannot pay it although his pledges are threatened daily with arrest and imprisonment.
