Looftehouse, Wakefeeld and Middelham request a writ to have delivery of their ship called 'le Leynard' of York and its cargo, which ship, while under the protection and safe-conduct of the King of Castile, was arrested and detained with a great quantity of their goods and merchandises by the people of Bernuy. The ship has now been spotted off the coast of Sandwich between La Rochelle and Flanders laden with white wine.

Note
The petition probably dates to the first half of 1417 since it is addressed to the bishop of Winchester as chancellor. Also in this year Lofthouse and Nicholas Blackburn were granted a licence to go to sea with 'le Leonard' and 'la Trinite' and take fish for the King's household (CPR 1416-22, p. 52).
