Name(s)

Occupation
Prior of St Fridewide's, Oxford
Nature of request
Walyngfford, prior of St Fridewides until ousted by Dodeford, who came to this present Parliament to pursue his right but who Dodeford had put in the keeping of the sheriff of London, requests that a writ be directed to the sheriff to bring Walyngfford before the chancellor so that he can pursue this business, and that a writ be directed to Dodeford to come to Parliament to discuss the matter.
Nature of endorsement
Be it known that Dodeford, hearing of the prosecution made by Walyngfford on 26 September in the first year of Richard II [1377] in Chancery at Westminster before the chancellor, and having heard the matter contained in this petition, protested that Walyngfford's suit and claim was untrue, claiming that he was elected while the office was vacant by common assent of the convent and licence of the King and was confirmed, and asked that the case be dismissed. The chancellor found by the roll and memoranda of Chancery that the election and confirmation was made as said and dismissed the case, claiming it should be dealt with at an ecclesiastical court before ecclesiastical judges.
