Description
Petitioners
Ralph Lanyeyn.
Name(s)
Lanyeyn, Ralph
Addressees
Chancellor.
Nature of request
Lanyeyn states that after Tregaminian died without issue, his lands and tenements in Tregaminian and elsewhere in Cornwall descended to Sibyl Lanyeyn and her sister Isabel and their heirs, and Sibyl, Isabel and her husband John Robin granted the lands to Lanyen, who was peaceably seised of the same for a long time until ousted by Park who claimed that it had been found by inquisition that Robin was a villein of the princess. Consequently, and by reason of the princess's death, a moiety of the land belonged to the King who granted it to Langueth. Lanyeyn requests that a writ of scire facias be directed to Langueth to appear on a certain day to say why Lanyeyn should not have the land and why Langueth's patent should not be repealed.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Tregaminian [in Morvah], Cornwall.
People mentioned

Note
The petition dates to c. 1387. In 1386 the escheator in Cornwall was ordered to remove the King's hand and meddle no further with a moiety of the lands late of Joyce de Tregemyngnoun, delivering any issues taken to the petitioner, as only a moiety should belong to the King because Isabel, one of the heirs, married John Robyn, a villein (CCR 1385-9, p. 71). In 1387 the moiety remaining in the King's hand was granted for life to Langueth, during the lives of Isabel and John (CPR 1385-9, p. 304).
