Description
Petitioners
People of Bourg and Blaye, and of the honour of Bourg and Blaye.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people of Bourg and Blaye, and of the honour of Bourg and Blaye, state that they have suffered greatly in this last war and in the other, and that many of them are in debt because of this. They ask that for five years they might not be imprisoned for debt, or their lands sold, or hostages put in their lodgings, but that they might be able to pay their creditors each year from their goods and chattels. And they state that the King of France has allowed these things to his people in France by a special grant.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent to the Seneschal, for him to advise himself on the things contained in it; and if he finds that they are not contrary to the laws and customs of the country, he is to do what he asks for.
Places mentioned
Bourg, [Guyenne, France]
Blaye, [Guyenne, France]
France.
People mentioned
[Philip VI], King of France.
Note
From the mention of 'this last war and the other' this petition would seem likely to date from the early years of the reign of Edward III.
