Nature of request
Bertram Caillou asks the king to grant him his letters under the great seal for 1250 marks which he owes him, which were taken in Cornwall from Bertram Assaillit and Bereduc de Marsan, who should have brought them to him, and which were taken into the king's hand. He asks that letters patent under the great seal might be sent to the Constable of Bordeaux to pay him this sum, when he has seen Bertram's documents. He also asks that he might be paid the costs of two clerks who came from the court of Rome for the king's business.

Note
The acknowledgment of the debt and the order to pay on m.19 of C 61/26 are dated 6 August 6 Edward II (1312), and would seem to be in response to this petition. CPR 1307-13 p.417 is dated 30 March 1312.
