Nature of request
William Renaut, clerk, son of William Renaut, citizen of Bordeaux, states that when Hugh Huguelin was Constable of Bordeaux, he sold certain lands belonging his father in the parish of Barsac, to pay a debt that his father owed the king for the farm of a bailiwick, and that although the sum for which he sold them amounted to more than the debt, he did not return the surplus to him. He asks for letters to the Seneschal of Gascony, ordering him to inform himself about these things from the Comptroller of Bordeaux or other good men of the council or others, and if he finds that it was so, to recompense William from the issues of the Duchy.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal is to be ordered to inform himself of the things contained etc. And if he finds from his information that Huguelin sold the land and received more than the debt amounted to, and that what he received came to the king's profit, and that the king is paid for the debt, then he is to pay the plaintiff what was thus over etc.
