Nature of request
Three petitions on one piece of parchment.Bertram Moliner states that he has served the king in his wars in Scotland and Gascony, in the company of Amaneu de Fossat; and that he has lost an arm in these wars. He asks that he might have the keeping of the castle of Saint-Puy in the Agenais, which is currently in the hands of the French, for term of life, with the accustomed wages.Arnold de Spelette states that he has continually served the king in Gascony with men-at-arms and foot soldiers, without reward or wages. He asks that he might have the castellany of Bourg, which is currently in the hands of the French, for term of life, with the accustomed wages.Arnold de Foysh states that he has served, and is still serving, in the war in Gascony. He asks that he might have the scrivenership of Villeneuve, which is currently in the hands of the French, for term of life.

The grant of the keeping of the castle of Saint-Puy to Bertran Moliner on m.18 and m.17 of C 61/52 is dated 21 June 1340, and would seem to be in response to this petition. Malcolm Vale discusses this petition on p.242 of The Angevin Legacy and the Hundred Years War, 1250-1340 (Oxford 1990).
