Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/286/14276
Date
[? c. 1320-? c. 1335]
Description
Petitioners
John Amic, king's clerk and counsellor in Gascony.
Name(s)
Amic, John
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
Duchy[of Guyenne, France].
Nature of request
John Amic makes three requests: 1) He states that he has been retained as counsellor by the Seneschal of Gascony, with a certain fee, as can be seen from the Seneschal's letters, and asks that this might be confirmed by the king's letters patent. 2) He states that he is owed money for the fee mentioned above, as the issues of the Duchy are so small that the Seneschal cannot pay him, and asks that the Constable might be ordered to pay him from the king's treasure sent there, and from the other monies in the Constable's keeping. 3) He states that he has been retained as counsellor by the Seneschal of Gascony, and asks that this might be confirmed. [This is added later, and seems to be a reiteration of (1) above].
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
Tentatively dated on the basis of the hand and language, and of the references to the poverty of the Duchy. The Master Jean Amici, mentioned on p.250 of Angevin Legacy as a go-between between the Constable and the officials of the French court in 1334-1335, would seem to be the same man.
