Lore (Laura) de Chambly, widow of John Destouteville, esquire.
Name(s)
de Chambly, Lore (Laura)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Lore de Chambly, widow of John Destouteville, esquire states that her husband went to war at the king's command, arrayed as best he could be, and that he incurred grave debts because of this. He died in the war, leaving his widow and children in great hardship. His lands in England have been taken into the king's hand, in name of wardship, and she asks that she might have this wardship, so that she can better support John's chidren and acquit his debts.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
People mentioned
John Destouteville (Stotevill), esquire.
Note
The writs for the inquisitions post mortem for John Destouteville (CIPM, vol. VI no. 417) are dated 22 November 16 Edward II (1322). The petition seems to suggest that John's death took place during the reign of the current king, and would therefore seem to date from between then and the end of the reign. CCR 1323-7 p.86 is dated 1 April 1324, and mentions that the wardship of the lands during the minority has been granted to Thomas Wake. CFR 1327-37 p.85 is dated 5 March 1328, and is perhaps in response to a later petition on the same lines as this one (perhaps SC 8/71/3538). CFR 1327-37 p.88 is dated 29 April 1328, and p.252 is dated 30 May 1331. CCR 1327-30 p.127 is dated 18 May 1327.
