[1324-? c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Bernard (Bernat) de Briget, burgess of Puymirol.
Name(s)
de Briget, Bernard (Bernat)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Bernard de Briget states that, for his great losses at the hands of the king's enemies and for his good service, the Earl of Kent, the King's Lieutenant in Gascony, has pardoned him various debts that he owes to William Gernal, Lady Theoburg del Yle, and Raymond de la Polerie, the king's enemies; and he asks the king to confirm this.
Nature of endorsement
The king will be advised on this and will answer him at his parliament.
Places mentioned
Puymirol, [Guyenne, France]
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
William (Guilhem) Gernal
Lady Theoburg del Yle (Lisle)
Raymond (Ramon) de la Polerie
[Edmund of Woodstock], Earl of Kent, King's Lieutenant in Gascony.
Note
Edmund of Woodstock, Earl of Kent, was King's Lieutenant in Gascony between July 1324 and January 1326. There is no indication of whether this petition is addressed to Edward II or Edward III, but it would seem to date to the period of the Earl of Kent's appointment or shortly afterwards, probably before his death in 1330. A note on the guard tentatively suggests a date of 1327-1330.
