Reference
SC 8/285/14245
Date
[1326-? c. 1335]
Description
Petitioners
Ponts (Pons) Dautreuyns, also known as Ponts (Pons) Archedekne (Archdeacon).
Name(s)
Dautreuyns; Archedekne (Archdeacon), Ponts (Pons); Ponts (Pons)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Ponts Dautreuyns, also known as Ponts Archedekne, states that he has served the king in the war in Gascony, and has lost £500 tournois of rent in the Agenais, which the French have taken, and that because of his service to the king he can have no means of supporting himself. He makes two requests:1) He requests the land which the Lord of Luc and Gerard de Mouns, the king's enemies and rebels, had in Bordeaux and the Bordelais, which is worth £300 bordelais annually, in compensation.2) He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered to pay him without delay what he can show to be due to him for his wages, by bills sealed by the Constables of Bordeaux, or warrants of Oliver de Ingham.
Nature of endorsement
To the first: the Lieutenant and Seneschal are to be ordered to inform themselves of the losses contained here, and to give him such remuneration as it suitable. To the second: the Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered to account with him, and to pay him what, from the account, is be due to him as soon as he properly can.

People mentioned
Lord of Luc

Oliver de Ingham.
Note
Oliver de Ingham was Seneschal of Gascony between March 1326 and February 1327, and between June 1332 and July 1343. From the mention of the late war, this petition would seem most likely to date from during (or, since it does not give Ingham any title) after his first period of appointment: although it might also date from the early part of the second period of office. It is very similar to SC 8/285/14246, which dates from 1327-1332.
