Description
Petitioners
Bernard (Bernat) de Bingholes (Bignoles, Vignoles), knight of the king's father.
Name(s)
de Bingholes (Bignoles, Vignoles), Bernard (Bernat)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Bernard de Bingholes states that he and his ancestors have served the king and his ancestors well and loyally, in peace and war, in Wales, Scotland and Gascony, and that in the late war in Gascony his father, five of his brothers, and others of his family died. His house at Vignoles has also been destroyed, and he cannot rebuild it without the king's help. The king's father gave him letters patent to the Seneschal of Gascony on this, but, because of a mistake by his proctor, the wording was wrong. He asks that the letters might be corrected and renewed. He also asks that any wrongs done to him by the people of Dax in this matter might be corrected.
Nature of endorsement
He is to show the letters which he has in Chancery, and, according to their tenor the Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered to do justice to him with favour on them, and likewise on the harm done to him by the citizens of Dax.

Note
Malcolm Vale discusses this petition on p.109 and pp.117-118 of The Angevin Legacy and the Hundred Years War, 1250-1340, (Oxford 1990); on p.109 he dates it to 1312. However, Gascon Rolls 1307-17 no.1332, which is dated 22 April 1315 seems clearly to be in response to this petition, so I have given 1315 as the date.
