Reference
SC 8/285/14230
Date
[c. 1332]
Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem) de Campaigne (Campagne).
Name(s)
de Campaigne (Campagne), William (Guilhem)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William (Guilhem) de Campaigne states that when John Darcy was in Gascony on the king's business, he lent John, the Seneschal of Gascony and the Constable of Bordeaux, £300 bordelais, for which he has not been able to have any payment. He asks that they might be compelled to pay him, or that the king might pay him himself, as the money was lent for his benefit.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested that the money mentioned here came to the king's benefit, the Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered that, when he has seen and received the letters which the said William has for this loan, he is to pay him without delay, as the money was lent for the king's great business, as it attested before the council.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
John Darcy.
Note
CPR 1330-4 p.7 is dated 17 September 1330, and m.10 of C 61/42 is dated 27 April 4 Edward III (1330). This is presumably the time referred to here, and the petition probably dates from a few years later - probably from around 1332, the date of the instructions to pay the petitioner on m.6 of C 61/44. It is hard to tell, however, whether these instructions are in response to this petition or toSC 8/286/14252/SC 8/167/8234.
